About the FaithJustice Foundation
Our Mission and Vision
The FaithJustice Foundation is a new nonprofit organization formed to equip and empower faith communities to take action for social justice in cities, states, and on the national level.
The FaithJustice Foundation was born from the FaithJustice Forum, a ministry at Annandale United United Methodist Church in Annandale, VA, which explores how faith impacts important social justice issues of our time. In Spring, 2017, the vision expanded to equip and empower faith communities to take action for social justice in cities, states, and on the national level.
FaithJustice holds certain assumptions: 1) that people of faith add important moral perspectives to our national public discourse, 2) that discipleship includes teaching and learning about Christian social ethics and the role of faith in society, and 3) that people of faith are called to speak and take action in ways that do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.
The goal of the FaithJustice Foundation is to provide education, training, resources, and eventually grantmaking to churches and faith-based organizations engaged in grassroots, social justice ministry, action, and advocacy.
Founded by Rev. Cynthia Johnson-Oliver, JD, a graduate of Harvard Divinity School and Yale Law School, FaithJustice reflects a belief in the power of both pastoral and prophetic ministry combined, and in the power of discipleship and social justice to change lives and transform communities in ways that lead to peace, justice, and love.
